The Fifth person Eddie meets in Heaven is Tala. Tala was burned to death in the fire Eddie and his fellow soldiers created after they broke out of captivity. She teaches Eddie that when he protected all those little children at Ruby Pier, especially the little girl from under Freddie's Freefall, her death was justified. This lifted a tremendous weight off of Eddie's shoulders. He was able to be at peace and know that his life was important and "for something", not worthless.

The fourth person Eddie meets in Heaven is his beloved wife Marguerite. Eddie is shocked to finally see her again and never wants to leave her. Marguerite teaches Eddie about love. She tells him that lost love is still love, but it just takes a different form. She also teaches Eddie about the importance of memories.
"Lost love is still love, Eddie. It takes a different form, that's all. You can't see their smile or bring them food or tousle their hair or move around a dance floor. But when those senses weaken, another heightens. Memory. Memory becomes your partner. You nurture it you dance with it. Life has to end, Love doesn't." -Marguerite, pg. 363 (iPad) I believe Ruby was Eddie's "Third Person" because she knew things about Eddie's family that even Eddie didn't know. She taught Eddie that his dad wasn't as bad as Eddie thought he was and that he has issues just like everyone else. She taught Eddie to forgive his Father so he can move on.
Ruby was an important person in Eddie's life because she was the reason "Ruby Pier" was built. Eddie and his father spent most of their lives at the Pier and it played a significant part in their life. Its where they both worked and where Eddie died. "Sometimes it’s in the middle of a fight. Man’ll drop his gun, and his eyes go blank. He’s just done. Can’t fight anymore. Usually he gets shot." -the Captain (pg. 103 iPad) "Peacetime was one thing. Got a lot of wise-guy recruits. But then the war started and the new men flooded in—young men, like you—and they were all saluting me, wanting me to tell them what to do. I could see the fear in their eyes. They acted as if I knew something about war that was classified. They thought I could keep them alive." -the Captain (pg. 100) "In that instant, the whole of the war came surging out of him like bile. He was sickened by the captivity and sickened by the murders, sickened by the blood and goo drying on his temples, sickened by the bombing and the burning and the futility of it all. At that moment he just wanted to salvage something, a piece of Rabozzo, a piece of himself, something, and he staggered into the flaming wreckage, madly convinced that there was a soul inside every black shadow. Planes roared overhead and shots from their guns rang out in drumbeats." -the Narrator (pg. 97) "Eddie watched, sneered, then moved down the path to the final hut. It was larger, more like a barn, and he lifted his weapon. This was over, he said to himself. Over. All these weeks and months in the hands of those bastards, those subhuman guards with their bad teeth and bony faces and the dead hornets in their soup. He didn’t know what would happen to them next, but it could not be any worse than what they had endured." -the Narrator (pg. 94) "A FREED SOLDIER is often furious. The days and nights he lost, the torture and humiliation he suffered—it all demands a fierce revenge, a balancing of the accounts." -the Narrator (pg. 93) I believe these quotes reveal how the war could change a man because they describe the feelings of veterans and how their minds are affected by seeing the graphics of war. They show how the pictures in your mind of the war can take over you and control you at any time. This is why I chose these quotes.
The second person Eddie meets in heaven is his Captain from when he fought in the war. The captain tells Eddie that he is the one who shot him in the leg. He says he did this to fulfill his promise: No man gets left behind. Eddie feels hurt when he learns that it was the captain, however he soon comes to realize he would have died much earlier if he wasn't shot. Eddie learns that God has a time for everyone to die. Everybody will die a certain day and a certain way.
The first person Eddie meets in Heaven is the "Blue Man". He met the Blue Man because when Eddie was a young child, Eddie ran out into the street in front of a car causing the driver to abruptly stop. This sent a shock to the driver's heart causing him to feel woozy and light headed. He nearly crashes three times. Finally, he crashes into a parked van. His head starts bleeding, and he dies of a heart attack.
Eddie met him because he had to learn that in order for him to have lived someone else lost a life. Also, that there are no random acts in the world and that birth and death are all connected. I chose this quote because it shows how confused Eddie was when he first got to Heaven. He asked the "Blue Man" where he was, the Blue Man says Heaven, and Eddie goes into shock. He denies it but soon comes to realize that maybe he actually is in Heaven
Eddie "Maintenance" was a ride maintainer at Ruby Pier. His job was to check and make sure that all the rides are safe and secure. He cared greatly about all the attendants at the park and never wanted an accident to occur. The last day of Eddie's life, the ride "Freddy's Free Fall" had an unraveling cable. After all the people on the broken cart were safely out, they released the cart sending it tumbling down, like a bolder rolling down a mountain. Underneath the falling cart was the little girl who had earlier asked Eddie to make her an "animal". Eddie ran to save her but his knee buckled an he fell on the metal platform, which ripped through his shirt and split open his skin, killing him.
My Miscarriage Twin: I would ask them what its been like to grow up in Heaven. I would tell them that I think about them everyday and that I wish they could have survived.
Paul Walker: I would ask him what it was like to be a main character in the BEST movie series ever (F&F). I would tell him that he shouldn't have been speeding or that he should have told his friend to slow down. My Grandfather: I would ask him if he knew about his bad doctor. I would tell him that I wish I could have met him before he died. My Grandmother: I would ask her what it was like to lose her husband so early. I would tell her that my sister, Kristen, looks just like her. My Mom's Miscarriage: I would ask them if they know/knew my twin. I would tell them that it would have been really cool to have had another older sibling. |
