The lesson of the book was love others. We should love others or die. We should never hold grudges and always forgive. If we never forgive we can never love. I think the most important message is to Love others.

In the Twelfth Tuesday Morrie explains the purpose of forgiveness. Morrie believes that it is VERY important to forgive. He also feels that he is very lucky to be able to forgive others. He feels sad because he never forgave his friend before he died. Morrie want to forgive everybody before he dies. This is what Morrie feels about forgiveness.
The Lesson Morrie Taught Me:
Morrie taught me that there's more to life than money an myself. I learned that I should help others and give to people in need. Morrie also taught me that I should keep in touch with my loved ones and always forgive others. The irony between the "Trial of the Century" reaching its conclusion and Morrie's life is that as the trial ends, so does Morrie's life. Morrie's day were quickly fading. Also as the trial's verdict was pronounced, Morrie didn't even realize (even when the whole world was watching) because he was sitting on the toilet. The basketball game reflected who Morrie is as a person because it showed that Morrie didn't care about winning or losing he just wanted to have fun. It also showed Morrie's character and how he is a great person.
Mitch describes the commitment of marriage as complicated. Everywhere Mitch goes he sees that everyone has problems with it. He wonders why everyone has such problems with marriage.
Morrie feels that in this culture it is very important to find a long relationship. He thinks that kids these days rush into marriage without thinking it through. He thinks we should wait longer before getting married so we know our partner is the right person. Morrie's Rules For Marriage 1. You have to respect the person you are marrying. 2. You have to compromise with the person you are marrying. 3. You have to talk openly about what going on between the person you are marrying and yourself. 4. You have to have a common set of values with the person you are marrying. I agree with Morrie's rules for marriage because everything he says a couple has to do, a couple has to do. If a couple can't do those things and they get married "they're going to have a lot of trouble". This is what I think about Morrie's rules for marriage. Love Goes On: Even though my cat Tommy doesn't always visit my Grandma, and I rarely see him, my love more him never fades. I know that he loves me and that he would never leave for good. He is my favorite cat and he is my baby. My love for Tommy will live forever even after he dies :(.
Q#1- Morrie loves music. He always did. Morrie was trying to teach Mitch that its the thought and the compassion that counts in the long run. If you don't love others you won't be loved. Morrie shared his LOVE for music with others and praised good singers and musicians. Morrie's love for music relates to what he was trying to teach Mitch because Morrie loves and cares for others and doesn't spend his time WANTING new things. Mitch WANTS a big house and a sports car. Q#2- I agree with this quote because even if you get every material thing you want you still won't be happy if you don't have love. If you have no family and are all alone, material things can't help that. You should only take what you need and share with others. Q#4- Morrie thought on how to live a meaningful life- "Do the things that come from the heart. When you do, you won't be dissatisfied, you won't be envious, you won't be longing for somebody Else's things. On the Contrary, you'll be overwhelmed with what comes back."
"Do you believe in reincarnation? I (Mitch) ask." "Perhaps" says Morrie "What would you come back as?" "If I had my choice, a gazelle." "A gazelle?" "Yes. So graceful. So fast." "A gazelle?" " 'Morrie smiles at me (Mitch)' '' You think that's strange?' " "I (Mitch) study his shrunken frame, the loose clothes, the socks-wrapped feet that rest stiffly on foam rubber cushions, unable to move, like a prisoner in leg irons. I picture a gazelle racing across the desert." " 'No' " I (Mitch) say. " 'I don't think that's strange at all.' " {Tuesdays with Morrie, pg. 108} This passage is a flashback conversation between Mitch and Morrie. Mitch is asking Morrie, if he was reincarnated, what would he want to be. Morrie says he would want to be a gazelle because they are graceful and quick. If I was reincarnated I would want to a cat. Cats are caring and loving creatures. They don't have too many predators and are SUPER cute. Cats are really soft and cuddly, too. Cats are very friendly and also love to get pet. This is why if I were reincarnated, I would want to be a cat.
Family is a very important thing to me. Without family, I wouldn't even be here today. Your family helps you through difficult times. They make sure that you are never alone. They protect you and help you. They also take care of you when you are sick.
A time when I realized how important family is is when I had my foot procedure. I could barely walk. My family helped me by getting things for me and buying the things that I needed. My mom was there during the procedure and she helped me by distracting me from the pain. My dad gave up his favorite chair so that I could have a comfy place to sit. My aunt/God mother even spent her own money to by me an ice pack to relieve the pain. Most people don't understand the importance of family until its gone or until they are dying or are alone. As Morrie Schwartz once said, "The fact is, there is no foundation, no secure ground upon which people may stand today if it isn't the family. It's become quite clear to me as I've been sick. If you don't have the support and love and caring and concern that you get form a family, you don't have much at all. Love is so supremely important. As our great poet Auden said, 'Love each other or parish.' " |
